Define the Protective Interface Without Losing Sight of the Optical Path
An optical window separates an optical system from its surroundings while transmitting the required wavelength range. Its substrate, thickness, surface geometry and coating must work together with the mounting arrangement. Share your operating environment and optical requirements so the window can be reviewed as part of the complete assembly.
Specifications to Include in Your RFQ
The items below are information to supply for technical review. Manufacturing limits and acceptance criteria are confirmed in your quotation.
Shape and aperture
Round or rectangular geometry, outer dimensions, clear aperture, edge details and mounting interface.
Thickness and geometry
Thickness, parallelism or wedge, flatness and dimensional tolerances from your drawing.
Material and wavelength
Substrate or preferred grade, operating wavelength range and any transmission requirements.
Environment and coating
Temperature, pressure or environmental exposure, coated surfaces and angle of incidence.
Quantity and acceptance
Prototype or production quantity, inspection requirements and requested delivery date.
Manufacturing and Coating, Defined Together
Tell us whether the window requires an anti-reflection or other specified coating. Include the operating band, transmission or reflection targets, incident angle and any durability requirements. Material availability, coating feasibility and agreed inspection criteria are confirmed during technical review.

Can I request a custom shape or size?
Yes. Send the outline, dimensions, clear aperture, thickness and edge requirements. Manufacturing feasibility is reviewed against your drawing.
Do I need to specify parallelism or wedge?
Include whichever your optical design requires. If it is undecided, describe the beam path and mounting conditions so this can be clarified before quotation.
Can windows be supplied with a coating?
Positive Optics offers coating services. Specify the surfaces to coat, wavelength range, incident angle and performance targets for review.
What information is needed for a quotation?
A drawing, material preference, quantity, optical requirements, coating targets and delivery date provide a useful starting point.
